Lumenis FX™ Fractional
CO2 Laser
Treatment Information
Dr. Knight and his staff are
very excited to add the Lumenis
UltraPulse® FX™ fractionated
CO2 laser
to the Orlando, Florida practice.
The CO2 Laser
has long been considered the “gold
standard” device for laser
skin resurfacing of the skin in
an effort to correct wrinkles,
laxity, scars,
and pigment problems. Although
effective in the right hands,
the lengthy downtime and somewhat
narrow safety window associated
with this procedure limited this
laser’s widespread use….until
now.
How Lumenis FX™ Fractional
CO2 Laser
works
Rather than affecting the entire
skin, the Lumenis UltraPulse®
CO2 laser
ablates only a fraction of the
skin surface, allowing bridges
of non-affected tissue to stimulate
rapid healing. This new approach
to fractional laser skin resurfacing
is more comprehensive, and considerably
more effective, than previous
fractional systems utilizing other
laser systems (i.e. Fraxel re:fine/re:store™,
Palomar StarLux®).
Are there any Lumenis FX™
Fractional CO2
Laser Side Effects?
In dozens of controlled clinical
trials with the Lumenis FX™
CO2, the
incidence of unwanted side effects
was extremely rare. To date, the
two most feared complications
of traditional CO2
laser resurfacing, depigmentation
of the skin (white spots) and
scars, have not been reported
in any patient.
However, patients who are treated
with the Lumenis FX™ are
overjoyed with the laser’s
effectiveness. Several clinical
trials have shown its superiority
in the treatment of coarse
and fine wrinkles, skin laxity,
dyschromia
and sun spots, rhytids, and
overall skin aging. Simply put,
there is no procedure on the market,
either laser or surgical, that
can deliver the results of fractional
CO2 resurfacing
with the Lumenis FX™.

FX™ Fractional CO2
Laser treatment levels
Treatment can be tailored to
each patients needs, with regard
to both clinical indication and
severity. Dr. Knight can adapt
your treatment to your specific
problem and tolerance of downtime.
Deeper wrinkles and scars
require treatment with the DeepFX™
protocol; the fractional CO2
laser penetrates to deep dermal
collagen but there is a higher
percentage of untreated skin,
enabling fast healing.
The ActiveFX™ protocol
treats sun spots, dyschromias,
and light winkles; a larger
spot size but limited skin penetration
also promotes rapid healing.

Results
Results are both instant
and long-term. Only one treatment
is required. Each pulse
with the laser removes a column
of tissue, eliminating pigment problems
and causing skin tightening. Deep
skin heating further promotes collagen
contracture and long-term new collagen
formation. In addition, the Lumenis
FX™ can treat areas off the
face, such as the hands, neck, and
chest.
What to expect after Lumenis
FX™ Fractional CO2
Laser treament
Downtime ranges from two to five
days, depending on treatment protocol.
In all cases, most of the superficial
skin peeling is resolved by five
days, leaving only a light pinkness.
Over the next six months, there
is a progressive skin tightening,
helping to correct fine and deep
wrinkles, scars, and laxity.
