How does Obagi® Nu-Derm
work?
The Obagi® Nu-Derm system
can help reverse the signs of
aging skin by promoting skin cell
turnover.

The system uses a five-step
process called a therapeutic
cascade that begins by pushing
new cells to the surface of
the skin faster, thus reducing
wrinkles.

Secondly, the system helps
to reduce excess pigmentation
such as freckles and age
spots.

Next, the products promote
the development of more consistent
cells, which evens out skin
tone.

Then, collagen and elastin
production is increased for
more resilient skin.

Finally, nutrients in the
skin are increased due to
a natural hydration and circulation
process promoting healthier
skin.
What to expect while using Obagi®
Nu-Derm
While using the Nu-Derm system,
there are typically four phases
to expect; the length of each
phase will vary from patient to
patient.

During the first phase,
age spots, freckles, and discolorations
begin to fade. There will
be some exfoliation, flaking,
redness and dryness; wrinkles
and acne may look worse initially.
These reactions are only temporary
and indicate that the medications
are working.

Once past the initial phase,
wrinkles begin to reduce,
pores begin to tighten, redness
is reduced, and discolorations
are lightened even more.

The third phase begins to
reveal firmer skin, more even
skin tone, and more lustrous
skin. The fourth and final
phase is simply maintenance.
Healthier, firmer, and younger
looking skin continue to emerge
with continued use.
There are several products in
the Obagi® Nu-Derm system.
The system works by selecting
a cleanser and toner to prepare
the skin, a serum, lotion, and/or
exfoliation product to improve
the skin, a cream to stimulate
the skin, a SPF cream to protect
the skin, and a moisturizing cream
to control the skin. All products
are available by prescription
only and work together as part
of a custom designed regimen recommended
by the Knight Dermatology Institute.
There are also Obagi® Nu-Derm
starter kits for Normal to Dry
as well as Normal to Oily skin,
which contains a sample size of
each product and an informational
brochure that further explains
the benefit of each product. Travel
kits for Normal to Dry and Normal
to Oily skin are also available
for on-the-go patients.
