Scar
Revision Description
Scar revision is a surgical procedure
that is used to reduce the appearance
of many types of scars. This surgical
treatment helps to restore skin
function in addition to correcting
the skin’s appearance.
Laser Scar Revision Treatment
Laser surgery is one of the most
successful means of treating scars.
The fractional CO2 laser (Lumenis™
FX) is the latest device used
to treat this condition, and the
results are often very impressive.
Our Pulse Dye laser (Candela
VBeam) is also effective at
treating scarring, especially
if there is a red or vascular
component to the area.
Surgical Scar Revision Treatment
The process of surgical scar
revision involves removing the
scar itself and joining the surrounding
normal skin together in a method
that makes the skin look more
natural. This treatment is recommended
for scars that are wide, long,
an abnormal shape or size, or
scars that are in a highly visible
location.
Sometimes, a technique using
uneven or spread out incision
lines (a plasty) is used to make
the scar appear less obvious.
Surgical scar revision is done
under local anesthesia in our
office.
What to expect after surgical
scar revision
Following scar revision, a light
pressure dressing may be applied
to cover the area. Sutures are
usually removed one to two weeks
after surgery. Normal activities
can be resumed almost immediately
for minor revisions, and soon
after the procedure for larger
revisions. Sun exposure should
be limited or avoided if possible
for several months following the
treatment.
We have several techniques for
treating scars, including traumatic,
burn, chemical, and acne scars.
Our aesthetic team will be happy
