Sculptra™ Injections Details
At the Knight Dermatology Institute
we employ a variety of agents,
often in combination, to help
our patients achieve a more youthful
appearance. One of these products
is a volumizing agent called Sculptra™.
Sculptra™ dermal filler
is an injectable poly-L-lactic
acid that is approved by the FDA
for correction of facial fat atrophy
associated with certain diseases
and medications. However, many
cosmetic surgeons use Sculptra™
dermal filler off label to help
restore lost volume and facial
contours to our aesthetic patients.
Poly-L-lactic acid has a long
safety record, and is commonly
used in absorbable surgery sutures
and surgical implants. Click

Customer Communications Fact Sheet.
Sculptra Injections Procedure
Fat loss below the surface of
the skin, also termed lipoathrophy,
causes sunken cheeks, hollow eyes,
and indentations. Sculptra™
dermal filler is safe, biocompatible,
and no allergy testing is required
before use. It is injected directly
into the skin to gradually improve
the appearance of skin folds and
depressions. A local anesthetic
is used to prevent any discomfort
prior to the injections.
Sculptra™ Treatment Results
and what to expect
Results of the treatments are
not immediate. The skin may look
better initially due to swelling
but it takes serial treatments
and a few months to build new
collagen. Usually three to six
treatments are required to achieve
the desired result. Normal activities
can be resumed the same day and
makeup can be applied immediately
after treatment.
Are there any side effects in
using Sculptra™ Dermal Filler?
-
Sculptra™ dermal filler
is generally well tolerated,
but does have some potential
minor side effects. Rarely,
some patients note small bumps
under the skin, tenderness,
bruising, swelling, redness,
and discomfort at the injection
sites.
-
Massage of the skin is imperative
after injection, and ice packs
can be used to reduce any
discomfort.
-
These side effects are temporary
and typically subside in a
few hours to a few days.
