KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile.
HOW KYBELLA® WORKS
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH KYBELLA®
Before starting treatment, your healthcare specialist will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if KYBELLA® is right for you. Then, your specialist will tailor your treatment to the amount of fat under the chin and your aesthetic goals.
How is KYBELLA® administered?
Treatment can only be administered by a KYBELLA®-trained healthcare specialist. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
How many KYBELLA® treatment sessions will I need?
Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your healthcare specialist will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. In clinical studies, 59% of patients received 6 treatments.
Will I need time to recover?
After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Be sure to inform your healthcare professional if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, or difficulty swallowing.
What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA®?
KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness (experienced by 4 out of 100 people in clinical studies) and trouble swallowing (experienced by 2 out of 100 people in clinical studies). In clinical studies, nerve injury in the jaw resolved on its own in a median of 44 days (range of 1 to 298 days), and trouble swallowing resolved on its own in a median of 3 days (range of 1 to 81 days).
The most common side effects occur in the treatment area and include:
Side effects are usually temporary and often resolve on their own
Botox® and Dysport® is used to treat:
If you’re interested in a Botox/Dysport treatment, you can trust the professional care at Knight Dermatology Institute. Since this treatment was first introduced, we have been providing it for patients with the skill and expertise that has produced optimum results. We love helping our patients look as young as they feel!
The procedure itself takes only about 10 to 15 minutes and involves a series of small injections of a purified protein derived from the botulism bacterium. No anesthesia is necessary, and when the treatment is over you can resume your normal activities. Activity in the muscles below your fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced, resulting in a smoother appearance. Dr. Knight and his practitioners have made it a point to stay current with the latest techniques for this procedure so you can always be assured of the highest quality care.
Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser treatment is used for:
The CO2 Laser has long been considered the “gold standard” device for laser skin resurfacing of the skin in an effort to correct wrinkles, laxity, scars, and pigment problems. Although effective in the right hands, the lengthy downtime and somewhat narrow safety window associated with this procedure limited this laser’s widespread use….until now.
How Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser Works
Rather than affecting the entire skin, the Lumenis UltraPulse® CO2 laser ablates only a fraction of the skin surface, allowing bridges of non-affected tissue to stimulate rapid healing. This new approach to fractional laser skin resurfacing is more comprehensive, and considerably more effective, than previous fractional systems utilizing other laser systems (i.e. Fraxel re:fine/re:store™, Palomar StarLux®).
Are there any Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser Side Effects?
In dozens of controlled clinical trials with the Lumenis FX™ CO2, the incidence of unwanted side effects was extremely rare. To date, the two most feared complications of traditional CO2 laser resurfacing, depigmentation of the skin (white spots) and scars, have not been reported in any patient.
However, patients who are treated with the Lumenis FX™ are overjoyed with the laser’s effectiveness. Several clinical trials have shown its superiority in the treatment of coarse and fine wrinkles, skin laxity, dyschromia and sun spots, rhytids, and overall skin aging. Simply put, there is no procedure on the market, either laser or surgical, that can deliver the results of fractional CO2 resurfacing with the Lumenis FX™.
Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment Levels
Treatment can be tailored to each patient’s needs, with regard to both clinical indication and severity. Dr. Knight can adapt your treatment to your specific problem and tolerance for downtime.
Deeper wrinkles and scars require treatment with the DeepFX™ protocol; the fractional CO2 laser penetrates to deep dermal collagen but there is a higher percentage of untreated skin, enabling fast healing.
The ActiveFX™ protocol treats sun spots, dyschromias, and light wrinkles; a larger spot size but limited skin penetration also promotes rapid healing.
Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser Results
Results are both instant and long-term. Only one treatment is required. Each pulse of the laser removes a column of tissue, eliminating pigment problems and causing skin tightening. Deep skin heating further promotes collagen contracture and long-term new collagen formation. In addition, the Lumenis FX™ can treat areas off the face, such as the hands, neck, and chest.
What to expect after Lumenis FX™ Fractional CO2 Laser treatment
Downtime ranges from two to five days, depending on the treatment protocol. In all cases, most of the superficial skin peeling is resolved by five days, leaving only a light pinkness. Over the next six months, there is a progressive skin tightening, helping to correct fine and deep wrinkles, scars, and laxity.
Juvéderm® and Restylane® Injectable Fillers are used to treat:
Juvéderm® and Restylane® injectable fillers are one of the most popular dermal filling agents at the Knight Dermatology Institute. They are injectable gel dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies. Natural hyaluronic acid decreases with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® and Restylane® injectable fillers work to correct this problem; replacing hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate the skin and add volume.
Hyaluronic filler substances are the safest, most natural way to add volume and rejuvenate the face. These products can be used to improve smile lines, lines around the mouth, marionette lines, as well as enhance the lips. A few simple injections can immediately improve unwanted facial creases. It also erases under eye circles or hollows, giving you a fresher more youthful appearance. This natural skin substance requires no allergy testing and can last from 4-12 months. Juvéderm® and Restylane® are highly customizable to our patients’ needs. There are several formulations available:
The practitioners at Knight Dermatology will discuss which product is best for your desired and achievable results.
Candela® VBeam Laser is used to treat:
The Candela® VBeam Pulse Dye laser’s ability to treat a wide range of skin conditions makes it the most utilized laser in our practice.
The Candela® VBeam Pulse Dye laser is a “visible light” laser; by delivering an intense but gentle burst of yellow light into the skin, it’s energy is absorbed by hemoglobin in blood vessels. The body then removes these blood vessels during the natural healing process.
How Candela® VBeam Laser Works
By using an inherent property of lasers called selective photothermolysis, the Pulse Dye laser targets vessels while sparing other skin structures such as pigment cells (melanocytes), hair follicles, etc. The incidence of dark spots, white spots, and scarring is extremely low. Additionally, the Candela® VBeam uses dynamic cooling of the skin to further enhance the safety and comfort profile.
In some cases, we combine Candela® VBeam Pulse Dye laser treatment with a topical photosensitizing agent (aminolevulinic acid) that enhances the laser’s properties: this is called photodynamic therapy or PDT.

One of the most common cosmetic complaints is having excess hair in places it is not wanted. This can include the legs, underarms, bikini area and the face. For men, it’s often the back. Shaving, waxing, depilatories, and bleaching solutions are some of the things people use when trying to deal with this problem, but the results are temporary at best. Laser treatment at Knight Dermatology Institute is a viable and effective alternative.
We also offer electrology services. Before your treatment, we will consult with you on what to expect and how to care for treated skin after a session.
Chemical Peels are used to treat:
Chemical peels work by using a chemical solution applied directly to the skin to promote peeling. The new skin that is revealed is smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in tone and color. These peels can be used with other cosmetic dermatological procedures and are often used to pre-treat areas prior to other treatments.
Patients with a variety of skin conditions can benefit from chemical peels. Patients with fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the nose and mouth, notice significant improvement after peels. Skin discolorations from sunspots, freckles, liver spots, age spots, uneven tone and blotchiness also diminish after treatment. In addition to improving skin tone and wrinkles, mild scarring (such as acne scarring) can be improved with peels.
Chemical Peel Procedure
Prior to treatment we instruct our patients to pre-condition their skin with topical agents, such as Retin-A.
On the day of the peel, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove all makeup, oil, and dirt. The eyes and hair are then covered so they are protected from the chemicals. The peel is then applied. Depending on the condition of the skin and the desired result, your aesthetician will determine whether a superficial or medium depth peel is required.
During the peel, the skin may feel slightly warm for about five to ten minutes. Daily use of sunscreen is recommended following the treatment to minimize the risk of complications, such as hyperpigmentation of the skin.
Chemical Peel Results and What to Expect
The gentlest peel, the superficial peel, produces redness and peeling which lasts about three to five days. Medium depth peels can cause swelling, scaling, crusting, and mild discomfort can last seven to fourteen days before complete recover
A benign lesion is any non-cancerous growth on the skin such as moles, warts, seborrheic keratoses, skin tags, and many others. Knight Dermatology employs several techniques to remove benign lesions and removal methods are relatively painless and require little recovery time.
Benign Lesion Removal Treatments
Benign lesion removal is done under local anesthesia. Commonly used methods of benign lesion removal include traditional surgery, laser surgery, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, and curettage. The chosen procedure will be individually tailored to your needs, with strict attention to the cosmetic outcome.
What to expect after a benign lesion removal:
After the lesion has been removed, most people can resume normal daily activities immediately. Benign lesion removal generally takes between five and twenty minutes. Complete post-operative instructions will be discussed with you, and usually include nothing more than an antibiotic ointment and a bandage.
In many cases, benign lesion removal is not covered by medical insurance. Cosmetic fees will be discussed with you prior to any procedure.
Photofacial Laser Treatments are used to treat:
Photofacials use a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Pulse Dye Laser (PDL) treatments, either with or without aminolevulinic acid (ALA). The light is absorbed by various structures in the skin responsible for unwanted blemishes. A more even tone and smoother skin are seen with just a few treatments. The procedure is quick, tolerable and causes no long-term damage to the skin.
Prior to beginning a photofacial, the skin is thoroughly cleaned and prepared. The pulses of light are then applied directly to the specific areas that need improvement. The process takes anywhere from fifteen to forty-five minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated as well as the desired outcome.
A topical anesthetic cream can be applied to the skin prior to the procedure. After the treatment is complete, normal daily activities can be resumed immediately.
Individual results vary from patient to patient, but results can be seen in as few as two or three treatments. Most patients require about five treatments to see significant improvement.
Photofacials are very safe and side effects are rare. Exposure to the sun should be avoided several weeks before and after treatment.
The procedure uses light abrasion to gently smooth surface skin cells. It is not painful and does not require the use of an anesthetic. Microdermabrasion is safe and effective. Commonly thought of as a lunchtime procedure, it only takes about thirty minutes to complete. There is no recovery time and normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Repeated treatments are recommended for optimal results. Typically, between five and twelve treatments are performed, spaced two to three weeks apart. Chemical peels are sometimes combined with microdermabrasion to further enhance results.
What to Expect After Microdermabrasion Treatment
Following treatment, your skin will appear pink and feel softer. Makeup and moisturizers may be applied immediately. Direct UV exposure should be avoided, and sunscreen should be worn for the first 24 hours following treatment.
We invite you to experience the difference in an educated and professional atmosphere as you receive your personal services at the Knight Dermatology Institute with a Clinical Aesthetician and Permanent Cosmetic Practitioner.
All facials include skin analysis, cleansing, exfoliation, steam, full face extractions, and recommendations for post-facial care.
